چکیده

We studied the magnetic properties of a ferritin-core array, deposited on a Si wafer and encapsulated in silica. The array was formed by a simple evaporation-induced self-assembly mechanism of ferritin proteins, and it consists of 6 nm ferritin cores crystallized in a two-dimensional hexagonal lattice with a core-core distance of about 10.5 nm. Magnetization studies indicate that the array undergoes a magnetic transition around 210 K. Our small-angle neutron-scattering studies provide evidence that huge net magnetic moments are stabilized in each core and that long-range magnetic order between the core moments occurs in the array. © 2006 American Institute of Physics. Structural and magnetic model of self-assembled FePt nanoparticle arrays

Chemically ordered, self-assembled FePt nanoparticle arrays with high magnetic anisotropy are considered a candidate medium for data storage beyond 1 Tbit/in. We report comprehensive structural and magnetic studies on thin (3 layer) assemblies of polyethylenimine (PEI) and 4 nm Fe58Pt42 nanoparticles using X-ray diffraction, small angle neutron scattering and magnetometry. We show that prior to...

Two-dimensional nanoparticle arrays derived from ferritin monolayers.

A scalable technique for making silica coatings with embedded two-dimensional arrays of iron oxide nanoparticles is presented. The iron oxide nanoparticle arrays were formed by depositing quasi-crystalline ferritin layers, an iron storage protein with an iron oxide mineral core, on solid substrates by a spread-coating technique based on evaporation-induced convective assembly. The layer of prot...

Macroscopic arrays of magnetic nanostructures from self-assembled nanosphere templates.

We have extended the widely used technique of nanosphere lithography to produce nanosphere templates with significantly improved long-range order. Single, ordered domains stretching over areas greater than 1 cm2 have been achieved by assembling spheres with the correct surface chemistry on a water/air interface. Self-assembly over macroscopic areas is facilitated by a combination of electrostat...
